St Edward 7th & 8th Girls
2014 CSAA Cross Country
City Champion
The St Edward girls win the City Championship with only 7th graders (no 8th graders). This was a great accomplishment considering 2 of the top runners decided not to run this year. On paper going into the season the team looked to be top 5 or 6 at best, but the girls trained hard and ran the extra miles. After the 1st couple of meets everyone knew that this was a team to be reckoned with. Sarah Wilkinson's hard work helped her confidence & she developed into the top runner in the City. Second year runner Jennifer Lopez big improvement vaulted her into a top 10 runner. Anna Grace Ashbrook & Sarah Webber both ran strong all season. Newcomers Autumn Cambron & Alex Spencer hard work and huge improvement is just what the team needed to help put it over the top. They might not have been the most talented team, but they out worked their competition.
The day before the City Meet St Edward's Sarah Wilkerson the City's top runner came down with the flu. Sarah was running a fever and throwing up all day, but still showed up and ran City next day. Sarah gutted out 4th place finish. Without Sarah's performance the team would not have won City. It is a shame Sarah was sick and did not get to win City considering she had dominated the competition all season.
